I think this is certainly original fiction, not fanfic. A lot of things based closely on religion, mythologies, and fairy tales could be considered "fanfiction," but those are all things ingrained firmly in our culture that we often learn without knowing the original source. Shakespeare is no exception: there are millions of stories based around the plot (West Side Story being one), and are they fanfiction? Of course not.

That said, this is an excellent story! Your descriptions and language are amazing. Keep up the good work.
