Very good chapter. Nice detail and promises good things for future chapters.

An Observation: In "Cyborg" by Martin Caidin (which served as the basis for the TV show "The Six Million Dollar Man") one of Steve Austin's missions was to get pictures of a new Soviet sub while it was still in its pen. To do this they equipped his bionic eye with a camera, which took a picture when he blinked hard. He approached the pen by sea, but experienced problems getting close and ended up surfacing off target. Trying to get his bearings he wasted half of his film load. How? Blinking water out of his eyes. You might want to mention that Mav set the magnification controls so that they recognize Ikeb's intent when she blinks.

Y'know, Fez, this is **really** good! Interesting, and amusing in Ray Bradbury sort of way...

I've lost my harmonica, Albert!

Question: Do you plot out your stories beforehand?

I ask because of the change in Rilos Mav's position. I understand the reason behind the change, but if you knew Rilos was going to supply Ikeb with an invisibility cloak why didn't you start the story with him in Experimental Physics in the first place?

Am I right in assuming that Barato is the third member of our ill-fated pirate expedition?

I really like this story. It is very thought-provoking and intriguing. You are a very good writer. I may not agree with some of the things you say, but I still respect you as a talented creator.

I am intrigued by this "society" hell-bent on keeping whatever dirty little secret it has. They appear almost omniscient, and the professor appears indomitable. If I didn’t know better I’d think you were setting up a meeting between an irresistible force and an immovable object. Whatever the outcome, I'm looking forward to it. It's always a pleasure to find Science Fiction material worth reading.

A revision, this time:

"Extract from the letter sent from the International Society for the Study of Ancient Languages..."

Try "excerpt", not "extract"

Oh, a few corrections:

The correct term is "synthetic language", not "invented language"

Esperanto is a 19th century language, not a 20th century one. (Created in 1887. ) See my website for more info:

"Then - well, as you know, I’ve got a good deal of experience climbing fences…”
Heheh... Yes, I *do* know!

Yum! This is good!!

WRITE MORE!

"Mav gave a quiet sigh. He knew Ikeb quite well, and he knew that she could become intensely annoyed at those who would not respect her. He himself had been the subject of such annoyance on a few occasions, and he did his best to avoid annoying Ikeb."

"'Ikeb won’t let Mav do it single-handedly. That could be their weakness.'
'Also, Ikeb could refuse to accept help from Mav. That would be in keeping with one of the traits mentioned in her file.'”

Good story. it is well written. Have you ever read Orson Scott Card's books? The style seems similar to the Ender series. anyway, very good.

Uh-oh. Now you've done it. Now I'm curious to know why she's being kept out of the society, which means I'm just going to have to keep following this and see what's going on. Nice Job.
