I've never really liked the the whole esoteric allowing-yourself-to-live-the-way-things-are concept but once I got over that it was compelling. I really liked the way that it donned on me that he'd died, not just fallen asleep. I think what I might have done though is to use different diction and word choice for It and Something. Virtual would have been short, simple,and flattering and Actual would have been more verbose, complex, and blunt. You did that to a point but I would have exaggerated it in such an ethereal story.
