Britain clearly bears some responsibility for the mess that Israel is currently in. More recently than Balfour, we promised BOTH SIDES the same piece of land if they helped us defeat the Nazis, and then did a runner whilst both sides were bickering. For various reasons it has become the USA who have the greater involvement, and the influential Jewish community in the States has tended to be a wee bit biased in favour of the Israelis.
