gorgeous.. and very sad. you characters are so strong and the delicate emotions involved with people who've just come home from the war make you really feel for them. i love this piece very much.

"Thank you," he said. "For not saying 'Welcome home.'"
Perfect ending.
Well, yes, super Hemingway. But in the best of all possible senses.
I really liked this. You could really sense the tension and unease that was passing between them, and although that made it rather hard to read at some points--you didn't really WANT to know what was going to be said next--it really set the entire thing off well.
Verdict: Yay.

I really like it. Indeed, very Hemingway. Spartan, so it seems like everything you DO say is infused with meaningfulness.
(I took your wonderful suggestions and rewrote Ch. 1 of my big story. Thanks!)

wow...you can feel the tenseness (hmm...is that a word?...lol...) of their situation, and you can get a sense of the pain that they felt. it's really good, it's too bad you don't want to continue it

That was perfect. I could just sense the unease and the awkwardness of the situation. Fascinating story. It would have been nice had you decided to continue this, but I suppose it would have destroyed the magic you created in this piece. Keep on writing, you've got gobs of talent.
