Reviews For: Why We Need a Dionysus

Nice take on it. A sort of yin-yang dark-light sort of thing. I like it. ^_^

I enjoyed this immensely.
I found your metaphor with the pendulum very fitting to the world, something also supported by the Pythagoreans, if memory serves well. And your analysis of Dionysius as an Eastern figure is, more or less, accurate. He was considered Thracian, if -again- memory serves well.
As for the Bacchae tragedy, you shouldn't take them very seriously, IMO. I think they show a struggle of the older matriarchic society and the newest patriarchical form. Look what they said for Medea, for instance. Robert Graves has a great analysis on those myths.
I also found the info on the French poet Arthur Rimbaud very interesting, since I know little about him. And although I found similarities with the God and Morrison, I failed to see any in Marilyn Manson's case.
Overall, I liked it. But you have left something out; Dionysius was the figure that inspired the birth of the theatre.
Anyway, good work. And thanks for the review.

...I'm not entirely sure how I stumbled on this essay, but it's quite an interesting topic. ^_^ Dionysus is MY favorite of the Greek Gods, too. I'd never thought of Marilyn Manson as a Dionysian figure, before... A little bit of criticism, though--you don't make much of an argument about why he (or in fact, any) of the modern examples you use fit this archetype. I imagine that this essay would have been much more interesting had you elucidated on that just a wee bit more. But nonetheless, good job!

This is a well-argued essay, and your point is made clear. In life there must be balance, and we need to be "shaken up" once in a while in order to re-align ourselves with the order, or even change the order if necessary. I'm pleased that you mentioned Marilyn Manson's status as a scapegoat and put it into a larger perspective. If only the haters could understand as you do...

I'm really sorry dear but I do hope you'll understand my French since I fear the comparison...and forget it, I'll try anyway. I think this essay is written in such a way you cannot say it isn't interesting. I like it when you compare all those myths figures and say they are needed by society... I also can see you're a fan a Michael Moore which is a good thing...trust me! never never never stop writing... I know you'll make it, and one day, everyone will claimed the talent of the unique and inimitable funky*puppy!
