I thought it was all good except for Legolas killing an elephant. Whatever. Legolas didn't do much in the original, I don't get why his blondness makes it necessary to give him unique powers...

Actually Wormtongue and Saruman both dropped out because Christopher Lee (Saruman) had contract arguments with Peter Jackson. In the book they both prominantly appeared in book three.
