Falsetto 2005-08-17 . chapter 1Mwahahaha! Oh my god, it's the depressing person I want to be but I'm too lazy to be! Thank goodness? Great essay. |
Dirty Wallpaper 2004-09-26 . chapter 1An interesting essay. I found the funniest bit to be the line about the asian girl fainting, haha, cool. I can't say i have ever met anyone like this, i know highly competitive people, but certainly no one with such an obsession with success that it effects other essential aspects of their life. Some good thoughts, kudos! |
Clodhopper 2004-08-20 . chapter 1ah yeah overachieving. very clever, funny, and truthful at the same time

akin 2004-06-21 . chapter 1 Oh yes, I do. I was getting hard to the end of this essay, but the last setences were really so true. Perfectionist with a strong competitive streak. Oh yeah, only Harvard is too far. I am glad to hear that all of us have the same problems, nicely written. |
kyuk 2004-03-31 . chapter 1 i've been on both ends of the spectrum. i did learn to read when i was 2. but from then on until college, i was absolutely useless. then, i got on the over-achieving, 4.0-GPA getting train and gosh darn it, i actually like it here. it's better than not really having a goal in ur life :). at least for me anyway :). |
Wilma Smith 2004-03-31 . chapter 1Ok, honestly, that was fairly well-written. Unfortunately, it was hardly satirical at all; mostly just overdone and oddly bitter. One feels, when reading this, that it is simply a mean-spirited jab at those that the author truly feels are better than he (or she). |
James Jago 2004-03-29 . chapter 1 Hurrah for mediocrity, and thank God they aren't ALL like that! |
Celo 2004-03-28 . chapter 1 This is hilarious. This is the epitome of modern comedy. Satirical, downright cynical, and a very very good depiction of the typical overachiever. |
fugiguru 2004-03-28 . chapter 1well written, but satire implies at least ironic, if not funny. this was depressing. but nicely written. |
Namir Swiftpaw 2004-03-28 . chapter 1I could read when I was two and a half, and could write before kindergarden...and I knew my alphabet when I was 18 months old. I'm smart, yes...but I am the antithesis of over achiever. In fact, I am just about the worst student ever. :P
Anyway, this was interesting. Keep writing.

Maya, youre not-so-perfect friend 2004-03-28 . chapter 1 oh thu, this has probably your best work yet. it goes from being ridiculously funny, to a little scary, to becoming a bit of a tear-jerker at the end. well done.
*cheese* |
Enigmaofthesoul7 2004-03-27 . chapter 1Wow. That was perfect. The perfect description that is. I have to tell you though, sometimes, people work very hard and don't recieve the perfect grades. They shut themselves up just like the typical overachiever but don't really achieve anything at all. Also, why does the choice of college keep on changing?
Ok... please review my works too. "Remedy" is what I'm currently working on.

Formerly 2004-03-27 . chapter 1I'm an honors student who learned to read at the age of three. None of my friends have ever been good students. I like to drink, whenever I can. I've been to several schools, and never have I met anyone at all similar to the person you describe.
Note that, additionally, this is not in any way satire. It is well written, though. |
Dracling 2004-03-27 . chapter 1After painstakingly analyzing the first 3 words in your work, I've decided you are amazing.
Lol, just replace "painstakingly analyzing" with "eyes-glued-on-screen reading" and "3 words" with...
Nah, that can stay the same...
Ignore my ramblings, haha. Seriously, though, I really admire your writing. Are you 14? 15? {I say that because you wrote an early fic on being 13, or at least something based on it.} It's really impressive, I think. ^_^ (I'm basically referring to all your writings)
::sigh:: Asian overachievers. If only I could be one. I'm just an insult to them everywhere...
Anyway, let me know when you publish your first book, kay? Haha ^_~

The otherworlder 2004-03-27 . chapter 1 Don't you think you are winging it a bit? That is way too stereotypical. Those people you described in your short tale is very hard to find. Most of those so called "honour students", they do have a real passion for academics. I can tell you as much, because unfortunately (in your book at least) I am one of the them. There are people who do like studying, there are people who think number crunching is fun, there are people who want to speak six languages for their own sake. And being an over-achiever is at least better than the opposite. Sometimes the society is just too prejudiced towards the well performed. |
