Er.
2001 is actually a book, not a movie. Well, it is a movie, but not originally.

Interesting. Like your other reviewer said, though, AI on the level (or above the level) of humans is a lot more difficult than it's made out to be in fiction.

And I hardly doubt machines would be kinder to the planet than humans have; from what I understand, it's practically impossible to program a conscience. Also, machines lack the reliance on the ecosystem that humans have. They don't breath, so they have no need for oxygen. In fact, oxygen is detrimental to machines; it is one of the most corrosive substances on the planet. Machines would benefit from the depletion of oxygen in the atmosphere; all of the oxygen breathers are thus gone from the ecosystems of the world, and of course, the O2-producing plants would have to go as well (of course, without something to use up that oxygen, the plants would kill themselves in short time). So basically, Earth as we know it dies under machine rule.

Anyhow, ain't gonna happen, but this essay was quite entertaining. Good job.

Yes, the world will come to an end _if_ we can develop such complex AI as is depicted in stories and in the moving image.
~
However, true AI on the level of humans, seems to be fated to remain in the depths of Science Fiction, as it is much more complex than we originally thought.
~
However, if the Human race is destroyed by the very robots we seeked to create and gave them AI as complex as ours, not only would I accept it, but I would also be grateful. We have done too much damage to this planet, maybe handing control to robots will be the only way to save it.
