I found the humor in the story, ain't bad. Although your descriptions are nice, they're over done at times, and your timing is a bit choppy. Would make for a better short story if you toned these factors up a bit.

Sometimes Nicholas can get a little too stoic for my taste, and I think his relationship with Nickodamous adds some flavor to his personality.
