Reviews For: Roy & Grimms
katmandu 2004-07-22 . chapter 1
My review got cut off in mid stream so I have to start over. If its lost in cyberspace and you get some repeat info, please forgive me.
Firstly, I think you know this already but the correct spelling is dying.
This tale does not ring as true to me as the others. A great idea, but Roy is more of a con artist that a clever guy and I don't think that is a good adversary for Death, even if he is just a working stiff. Too many complicated issues around mortality. Even the comedy has to be pretty sharp. Don't you think? Death comes across as sort of mody -- nothing at all scary about him. I guess that's OKAY, but it would have to be racously funny. Personification of death is always tough. The most masterfully great exampl, however, is Emily Dickenson's very famous poem along the the lines of Death riding by her in a horse and buggy: "I never stopped for Death and then he kindly stopped for me." It goes on to dialogue description between the writer (the passenger) and Death. If you can't find it, your aunt will provide it from her library. I would recommend rewriting this with some of the edge you had with Kyle and his brother in the Family story.

hm. I liked your first chapter better, if you want to know the truth, but this was kinda amusing, kind of... or maybe I just expected too much from you. *shrugs* keep writing then. ^.~~

Sounds like you were having some fun with this one. Impressive write, but sounds like you were having too much fun with this genre. I too had some fun with it and wrote a horror story set during the time. The grammar on my story is going to be a bit awkward. This one though -- has a Neil Gaimen vibe with it. I like how it is written though.
