I love this story's theme and the whole idea of "unsung historical support". Not one that I encounter very often. I also like how it's just a snippet and not a long-winded life story that are often found in history textbooks...interesting...
The final few lines were incredible as well!

Nice work. I don't really have any constructive criticism for this piece, maybe I could have received a little more information about the setting, a little more atmosphere would have made this even better. Okay, I guess I did have criticism, but what I had said is only a matter of opinion and...I'm going to stop myself from rambling further here. You're going on my Favorite Authors list.
