Reviews For: The Old Man and the Cabin
Avory 2004-06-30 . chapter 1
For some odd reason, this reminds me of Poe's "The Tell-Tale Heart". I suppose the sounds of the "hulking" figure's footsteps soothed the old man in much the same way that the sound of a dead man's beating heart drove Poe's persona to madness and confession. I don't know if that correlation was intentional. But, intentional or not, it is brilliant in its own right for stirring such 7th grade memories of a good horror story. I digress... I loved the personification in "the cowering log cabin." Very effective. It perfectly supported the mood of the story. It would have been nice, however, to continue the personification later on when "It" intruded upon the "cowering" cabin's premisis. One single adjective for cabin in the last sentence would have wrapped it up splendidly. Overall: Lovely little slice of short story!

I'm not sure a log cabin can cower. Other than that, I found this well written and intriguing. I'm glad that you left out a lot of useless description, you used just enough to get your point across. Great job, keep writing.
