sad, but true. I know its based on reality, and for that I am sorry. I hope you can still somehow contact him...but I suppose that may be wishful thinking.
The title is what drew me originally. Because, especially when something like this happens, but all the time to varying degress, really, I think people do need the lies...I know I do sometimes.
Good work, as a suggestion, a short fiction might be really good based on this. Just a thought...
