gwyn 2007-10-14 . chapter 1
thanks for this info. I'm glad someone is thinking about it. I have been vegan for almost a year now, and it's good to see this important info getting around :)
Joe 2006-04-04 . chapter 4
I don't know much about farming conditions, so i'll withhold opinion on that. It does sound pretty damned farfetched though. What i do know, is that in the water you drink, there are chemicals that can turn you into a hermaphrodite, blood, pus, **, whatever. That's why we don't use udders like a tap. Whaddaya, drink from the udder when you're feeling thirsty. I also have a problem with your sources. Peta.com and peta2.com? Pretty ridiculous don't you think. Also, being Asian, I eat tofu just about every day. Though i'm somewhat used to it now, it still tastes pretty damned disgusting. Tofu made to resemble meat tastes like crap, soy milk tastes like crap, and i would not want to depend on nuts and protein as my sole source of protein. Your essay comes off as hysterical, especially the one about being vegan, and the one about docking. For your information, Jews and Muslims have to go through circumcision. Trust me when i tell you that it hurts. It may not make sense to you, and the child may not want to do it, but he still has to because his parents follow that religion. What are you going to do, storm Mecca and Jerusalem and demand choice?
John Stein 2004-10-11 . chapter 4
"Only two percent of vegan teens are obese."

And ninety eight percent of vegan teens are sickeningly skinny bastards who look like they crawled out of a four thousand year old crypt.

"Meat eaters also have more sinus problems."

And...you base this on what?

"There are veggie burgers."

Yum. Tastes like chicken, with a distinct aftertaste of human **.

"Tofu can be eaten with just about anything."

This sounds appealing. Little generic lumps of artificially made crap. You do realize you're not very convincing, right?

"For ice cream, you can use soy or tofutti."

Regular Ice cream that's low in fat tastes nasty, nevermind this stuff. (yes, i like my ice cream covered in fat. There's a way to get rid of it. It's called going outside and seeing the oh so painful skin-melting daylight). If anybody tried eating Tofu-ice-cream or "tofutti" after they read this, I'm sure they regretted it, and slammed their face in a public toilet.
John Stein PhD 2004-10-11 . chapter 2
"Some people, like Christians, say that the Bible states that humans have dominion over animals."

Still pumping out that hatred for Christians, arent you? The parts where it states that humans have dominion over animals are used by Jews (and have been even longer. the Jewish religion predates Christianity.) But, if you're going to bash the beliefs that Christians and Jews share, it's better to shift all the blame to Christianity. Blaming both groups isnt PC enough.

"If you eat meat, you're acne will be worse."

Hmm. Should I listen to the doctors who said that food related acne is total **, or you?

"meant for a baby cow, not for you to drink."

And animal ** is meant to rot and produce some nice grass, not be used for fertilizer that will eventually grow the vegetables you eat.

Well, if this essay hit home with any of your readers, and they stopped drinking milk, they've stopped with the breakfast cereals. Probably just broke out the bacon, eggs and breakfast sausages b/c of you (they're much better breakfast foods anyway).

"When eating meat, you consume antibiotics.. and steroids."
unless, of course, you are like myself, a person who buys all of their meat proudly from the farmer's market, with the assurance that it is organic.
"These machines take the milk, which is meant for a baby cow, not for you to drink."
i'm sure that fire was meant to be used for warmth. but others use it to cook, or burn things down.
"...the mother cries for days..."
i think its pretty obvious cows have emotions. look at rosie o donell.
i'd like a source on your "cow crying" sentence. sounds a bit far fetched.

you have a few grammatical errors and your sources are "peta.com" and "peta2.com". not exactly objective.
fugiguru 2004-09-19 . chapter 3
"The point I'm trying to make is that tail docking is amputation."
i agree. causing animals pain for cosmetic reasons is wrong.
fugiguru 2004-09-19 . chapter 2
"If you enjoy watching others suffer, then I hope that you never get an animal."
you seem to imply that it would be okay to "get a human".
fugiguru 2004-09-19 . chapter 1
"For one thing, there is no scientific research supporting that plants feel pain."
WHAT?!?!? haven't you read any roald dahl?
"In fact, PETA, the largest animal rights organization in the world, has over 800,0 members."
that is the most frightening number i've ever read.
"do not be afraid to condone arsons at places of animal torture."
if an "animal abuser" were killed in a research lab firebombing, 'i would unequivocally support that, too.'

I'm glad you feel for animals.
I agree with you - animals are intelligent. They have lives. If anything, animals are infinitely better than humans. I am jealous of them.
However, I can't deny that much of the medical testing on animals was and is important. We'd all be dying at a much younger age without it...
But then, medical advances are kind of preventing humankind from evolving into stronger creatures...now I'm confusing myself.
There are pros and cons.

John Stein PhD 2004-09-09 . chapter 1
PETA. Ah, the group that supports terrorists who place animal lives over human lives. They even gave money to a terrorist (forgot the name) who, on camera showed a group how to make a homemade bomb with a milk carton. Great people.
And really, being a vegan sucks, as one guy pointed out, they're mostly a scrawny breed of subhumans who look like they'll break a bone by sitting up. Your probly for gay marriage right, so you say that we shouldnt care what other people do. So dont friggin mind if i like eating little baby cows (m veal).
Soupy 2004-09-04 . chapter 1
Animals are here to feed us. Some are pets. Some are used to test for medicines. Somehow I think that the needed protein in a human diet is more necessary than cow over-population, and somehow I believe that a few lab rats dead is worth a cure for cancer. And avoid contractions and emotionally driven statements.
Tiefling 2004-09-03 . chapter 4
For some reason I can't log in right now. Oh well.
I eat a 90% vegetarian diet myself, and I agree with some of your points, but I found this chapter overly simplistic, in both writing style (short simple sentences and incorrect terminology) and content.
'When eating meat, you consume antibiotics, saturated fat, cholesterol and steroids.'
Just to play Devil's advocate for a moment, it is possible to buy organic meat, which is free of antibiotics and steroids (though it might be more expensive), and lean mean has relatively little fat.
'If you don't know, antibiotics are used to treat infection. If you think about it, that really is disgusting.'
You don't really explain why antibiotics being found in meat is a bad thing here. You could have explained that regular consumption of antibiotics means that the bacteria we're exposed to become immune to them which breeds 'superbugs' medical science is so far unable to combat. Just saying it's 'disgusting' is a bit childish.
'Meat eaters are more likely to get cancer.'
Why? You should really explain a claim like that.
'Every year, the female cow has to have a baby.'
There are no male cows, those are called bulls, and their young are called *calves*.
'This is how veal is supposed to be.'
That sentence just doesn't sound right. You could give a lengthier, better explanation of how veal is produced.
'There are ways to save these animals. Become a vegan, which means that you don't eat any animal products, including eggs and dairy, and you don't use any, like wool or mohair. It may seem hard, but to be quite honest, it's very easy.'
You have argued against the meat and dairy industries, but you haven't actually provided any reasons not to consume eggs or use wool (btw mohair is just another type of wool). Personally, I feel a little guilty about using dairy products since veal calves are a biproduct of the industry, but I can't see anything wrong with eating eggs provided you get the free range kind, and I don't think the wool industry is particulary cruel to goats or sheep.
'If you eat meat, you're acne will be worse'
That's an overgeneralisation. A high fat diet can make acne worse, but you can have a high fat diet without eating any meat (by eating too many egg and dairy products which also high in animal fat), and in some cases acne is not the result of bad diet or bad hygiene, but simply bad luck.
Radyn 2004-09-03 . chapter 4
Does it not say in the Bible that God invented animals and ** like that to benefit humans?
Voronwe 2004-09-03 . chapter 1
The only right animals have is the right to somehow benefit my existence.

clouded leopard 2004-09-03 . chapter 4
AMEN, man. A-M-E-N. I TOTALLY agree with you. Animals do have feelings, and they shouldn't be treated like dirt. Animals ROCK. And although I'm too young to be in PETA, I'm in S(tudents)ETA at my high school.
Buut... I'm not a vegetarian. Sorry to say it, but I love my meat. Although I do strongly disagree with the way animals are treated before they are used for our food. I personally think it's okay to eat meat, as long as the animals involved are well cared for. And you can avoid that abuse without giving up meat. For example, free range chickens. They are allowed to roam over a stretch of land, instead of kept in small cages. They lay eggs when they want to, they're not forced to every day. But that's all just my opinion. :)
