It's a little hard for me to put my thoughts about this in words, but I think I get the basic idea here; baseball holds such a large, meaningful part of this man's life that he views it almost religiously. I've known of artists who have almost religious devotion to their work, so I feel this is a thought-provoking story.
Though, some folks might accuse you of blasphemy (lacrosse fans or avid golfers for instance).
