Eirien 10/3/04 . chapter 1Beautiful piece, I especially like the ending, I could imagine this as a song, with the „I long“ slowly fading out … I can relate to the message, although I wonder if we do not idealize childhood a bit too much, I for one cannot say that the only tears I cried as a child “were those of laughter and joy”. Still, it works in the context and for the message of the poem, and I do agree with that message. A parent-child love definitely is not the painful, heart-breaking torture which adolescent love between partners can be, those infinite regions of beauty and pain a child never dreamt could exist. “a thousand tears to fall unbidden from broken eyes.” Wow, what a line. Beautiful poem. |
