| crazeedaizee411 2008-04-08 ch 1, | abuseThat's so right. I'm a conservative, and when I argue with Liberals, they always answer with " Well, you're stupid and oldfashioned and narrow minded." when I back up my points and they can't. Great poem. |
| YueDreamer 2004-10-28 ch 1, | abuseI dunno what I am. But I agree with you. Many of the liberals thinks they have an open mind when they don't listen to other people's opinions. and I hated that. Very 'hypocrite' indeed |
| bayshel-wass 2004-10-25 ch 1, | abuseThe truth is, we're all probably hypocrites in someway or another. That being said, I do have a question I'd like to pose as food for thought. I can be called hypocritical because I'm not very fond of people who believe gays don't deserve the same rights as other Americans. Now...would you say the same thing to me if I said I didn't like racists or anti-semites? Maybe some of you would...but I'm betting many people wouldn't, because racism and anti-semitism are no longer socially acceptable. Somehow, denying homosexuals rights is. |
| holocaustpulp 2004-10-14 ch 1, | abuseA couple things - first, you make a good point, and present it in a definitive manner. Essentially, yes, liberals are closed minded as every political faction generally is self-promoting. I myself am a liberal, and I believe there is no right, but only morality - we're narrow-minded due to our contrasting visions of morality. But open-mindedness exists, I believe, when compared to conservative values. A main factor of liberalism is that it challenges conservative values - that is, open-mindedness is then manifested as defying the old, rightist views. I agree with both points here. The poem did a good job at getting your message across, and I like that boldness. |
| Arin Rowan 2004-10-12 ch 1, | abuseI know what you mean. I am liberal, i guess. Because I believe in people not dying because they can't get healthcare. because I believe persecution is wrong. and because I believe corporations that destroy the planet and people's lives are wrong. But I don't think everyone should be vegans, or throw out their cars, or attack anyone who doesn't share the same views. Depressingly, liberalism seems to be the opposite side of the coin as conservatism. It's too much becoming the very thing it was suppoes to not be. (sighs) At times like this, I hate dialectic materialism. |
| unknown 2004-10-12 ch 1, anon. | abusei like the point u made here. i'm a liberal myself and i feel that liberals, despite their titles and stereotypes, can also be quite closed-minded. but at least being prejudice against war-mongers don't kill anyone. war on the other hand, kills many ppl. conservative's closed-mindedness is quite different from liberal's closed-mindedness. they not only don't accept the opinion of the other party, but they are also reluctant to make changes in society such as giving gay people their rights. humans all have a degree of closed-mindedness, it is inevitable. liberals are just more open-minded about the rights of the people, the welfare of the people. at least that is what i believe. |
| wantedINheaven 2004-10-11 ch 1, | abuseVery good point you put across, here... Very good point. *wanders off, thinking* |
| Ovaia Pelosa 2004-10-10 ch 1, | abuseinteresting, nicely done. i dont think it is quite the same, though, u r against peoples OPINIONS while many conservatives are against people foe who they ARE. |
| lili brik 2004-10-10 ch 1, | abuseyeah! after reading a certain unnamed poet's work on this same page this is just what i needed...i am a liberal as well...yet i all too often feel the way you do. people are stupid, no matter which parties they happen to belong to. |
| Misio 2004-10-09 ch 1, | abuseYou raise a valid point, but the poem is fairly weak. It reads like a chopped up paragraph. There can be a much better poem written from this. |
| arrogantamerican 2004-10-09 ch 1, | abuseGreat poem, it didn't flow or ryhme perfectly but the message was told with such beautiful grace. I am a conservative, and I'm sick of hearing I am closed minded, especailly from somewhere like fictionpress (a liberal breeding ground) where everyone is using the same old liberal rhetoric over and over and over and over and over again straight from the desk of Michael Moore and never questioning it. And honestly, I bet I could kick the crap out of any liberal in a debate about Bush's motives in going to Iraq (e-mail me if you feel that there is too much crap in you and want someone to kick it out). Liberals look open minded because a conservative is in office right now, and you can't be open minded when you agree with the government even if the mainstream belief is going the totally opposite way in this society. At the same time it makes me embarrassed when I see pompous flaming conservatives making their fellow conservatives look like @$$es as they spew their crappy debating points and flames. Ya know, I've learned never to sterotype a party. I'm glad you posted this, and I bet it is hard to say when you encounter closed minded conservatives (I'm talking about those who actually ARE). |
| Make me with Beautiful Line... 2004-10-08 ch 1, | abusenice poem, and a good point |
| Eva Hochstetter 2004-10-08 ch 1, | abuseThis poem really made me think of the political boundary line between the lefties and righties, and it made me realize just how much this nation is divided in these times. First, I do consider myself liberal. I have been called a "liberal weener." It no longer offends me; in fact I find it funny. The reason I decided to follow a liberal path is that I simply found the conservatives too discriminatory. I don't believe in denying gay couples their rights, and I don't agree with denying women their right to an abortion if the want one. It's their choice to make, not the President's or anyone else's. I don't think I hate conservatives. And believe it or not, I don't hate Dubya. I just don't agree with his policies. I listen to the opinions of others and consider them. That doesn't mean I have to support them. Great poem though, made me think on a debate night. And yes, I will have Bushies at my debate party! > |
