Roth Jopalse Sammuels 2005-12-18 . chapter 1It seems to somewhat mock Romeo and Juliet, but hopefully that wasn't your intention.
Assuming it wasn't, and looking at the title: Real Life Romeo & Juliet, I tried to see it as simply a sharp contrast between a brilliant stage production and the reality of love. I can see how true this is with so many lovers, but I think it could've been done just a little better. It's still a great peice, because it gets the point across well.
My main issue is that I've come across other writers who make references to Shakespeare in their work and are able to pull off great work without somehow degrading Shakespeare. The pessimistic side of love does contrast well with the theme of Romeo and Juliet, where love seems to be the only optimism in the world, but the difference between the two... the line between them could've been drawn a little better, so as to mock the way we treat love today, rather than mock Shakespeare.
I hope that makes sense. I still think you are a great writer, and this is still a good peice. But remember to be careful when working with Shakespeare. As an actor, I strongly respect that man, and see him as a genius, so don't insult him or I'll give you hell.
Ahem. Keep writing. |
