Tuesday start seriously talking to one of the nerds. Then complement a prep and start a conversation. And talk to a poser... I mean punk/goth, too. If they won't talk to you, spread nasty rumors. Works for me.

Reading this, I think I have a sense of your exasperation. As an outcast myself, I know that there have been times when I've just felt like screaming this sort of thing. Thanks for voicing a common but much ignored feeling!

wouldn't it be equally mean and unfair if one was friends with a particular person, and invited he or she to engage in expensive activites, and the friend constantly couldn't participate because he or she was too poor?

I think that it is the rivalry between the cliques that causes all the problems, and not their existence. Every person in life can be ordered into some kind of clique, even if it isn't called that. Also, there are probably a lot more types of cliques than that you mentioned here, but I get what you mean. You could have added more detail at places, but overall it is a nice little piece :)

Yes; cliques can be stupid. But face it: they're not just in highschool. Everywhere you go, kids will stick together protectively. Some will feel and /act/ superior. Others, like the nerds or wanderers, hate these people, because they guiltlessly pick on the nerds. But the nerds want to /be/ them. So really, inside, /most need cliques to exist/.

It's human nature. You might as well just get rid of government.
