I really like the ending. Parts brought up brilliant images: 'apple (core) of my eye.' - old and brown. The jailbird reference sticks. I love the scene.

I don't usually like free verse, but I'll make an exception for this one. It's nice to find a poem about what love is actually like rather than what a bunch of heartsick teenagers would like it to be. I'm working on a couple love (or anti-love) poems myself; I can only hope they will compare.
