Huh, politics are always good, but I was dissappointed with your comment about Naval Personel. All members of the armed forces are drilled to follow orders, with very little difference in their discipline levels. But hey.

Any chance of the return of Ren Tir?

PUB ACTION! Yes! Space combat! Brilliant!

That was pretty damn cool, I have to say, But I seriously want to see what would happen to the Confederation if they actually had equal numbers. That was just to easy for the mighty Task Force.

Of course I'm expecting it to get harder. I mean, you don't invade an alien empire expecting it to be easy.

All in all, minus a couple of small spelling mistakes, this was a good chapter. Now bring back Ren Tir!

Okay. Just to point out some stuff I missed. You've got to feel sorry for young John, he's got two lovely women after him, one of which is obsseviely possessive, and the other who is so impossibly enamoured with him to go so far as to take control of his mind.

C'mon, put Ren Tir in, please? He's second only to Chewbacca I believe. I mean, the big guy was so cool, haulling around huge guns and blowing stuff to Kingdom Come. He'd beat stuff up so bad. Please put Ren Tir in.

I gotta say this is becoming far more wide reaching. Which is a good thing mind, but don't flow to far from the main conflict.

Because that's why we're reading, to see how this conflict turns out. Of course, the almost complete removal of aliens seems to bug me a little. Any chance of the return of Ren Tir?

Hoorah! A sequel! I loved Live! so I should love this, so long as you put Ren Tir into it, Ren Tir was so cool.

So far, what I've seen has become more standard, but I don't mind, so long as your naval conflicts are suitably intense, you have gory boarding actions, Ren Tir, more John Darro related shenanigans with the marine officers, and maybe more of that cool marine breakfast.

BigGriggin,This is a good start to a space opera with what appears to be a lot of legs. This is a good thing, lots of directions to go, real people as characters, and a proven model / method to develop a plot along.Hard to imagine the genre evolution from Doc Smith and the Lensman to Weber / Harrington. You're in very good company and carrying on the tradition. Was that enough flattering cliches for you? Hope so, I really like your stories and want to encourage you to continue.Couple of questions, what's the ships complement? 8 midshipman is a pretty large load, not even talking about 30 on the B.C.You've tempted us with a good dose of foreshadowing with Darro, is he going to join the Nebraska? Are all these new ships and fresh crews going to be sacrificed to provide the incidents needed for the declaration of war? Can the allied aliens be trusted? Boy I love stories like this! Thanks for sharing!

Good start of the next story arc. Smooth transistion of the remaining / carry-over characters. I wonder if maybe the story is getting a little too convoluted though. Plots, counter plots, and the Yarrisians seem to be playing both sides.Maybe you'll break things down into little smaller pieces in the next chapters. I still want to hear how our intrepid reporter resolves his relationship woes! Thanks for sharing!

The opening chapter (the only one, at the time of of this review) introduces the story very well.

The detail you go into when mentioning the different ships, and the fact that you named them, sets this story one step ahead of the rest.

Tom (R&R my work, if you want :D)
