| asdf 2008-03-31 ch 1, | This made my day! |
| eva 2005-04-01 ch 1, | Animal Farm sucked. Orwell was not a genius. But now that that's out of my system, I'll tell you that I had to re-read it to understand that it wasn't serious. You might want to warn people of that, judging by your reviews, people took it the wrong way, and at first, so did I. I did find some parts funny, thoug, don't get me wrong. This is a very clever essay, just a word of advice. ~*eva*~ |
| Ryter 2005-03-29 ch 1, | Heh. Interesting farce, though a lot of people got the wrong message. Interesting point of turning the message on it's head, though. |
| Crazy Biene 2005-03-29 ch 1, | I'll come back for more!! Um...I think this is a very original piece. |
| The Immortal Bard 2005-03-29 ch 1, | Although I believe everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I do have several problems with this essay. First of all, not only did power CORRUPT the pigs, but that served as the main premise of the book (i.e. When freed from the shackles of their oppressors, people tend to take on the habbits of their previous masters. Second, from what you said in your essay, you watched the movie, not read the book. When analyzing a classic piece of literature, it is always best to read the actual book, as many components of the book are not carried over. one of the things you missed is that, through various examples, Animal farm is shown to be strongly anti-communist. Third, some of your refrences to symbolism do not make sense. Boxer does not represent how horrible being slaughted is. That is a given. It is simply a metaphor for how despots will get rid of even the most hardworking people once their own purposes are fufilled, representing no regard for human life. In general, however, you need to look beyond the actual event to the metaphor behind it Third, you constantly regard the pigs as the most advanced beings, reducing the other animals to disgusting bit players. By giving the pigs both intelligence and cruelty, Animal Farm is meant to raise the question "If they are capable of cruelty, does that not make them in fact the less civilized creatures?" Also, the other animals are not inherently stupid, but represent how the wool can be pulled over the eyes of the masses if they are kept ignorant, in this case illiterate. These animals are not to be scorned, but pitied. Fourth, many bits of information in this essay are quite irrevalent. Instead of adding unhelpful quotes about what the characters often said, you would be better off going into detail about the personalities of the pigs, giving the reader a better understanding of their motivations. In conclusion, although you obviously put some work into this essay, there are several things you need to shore up. You need to work on what information you chose to use, the depth in which you explain the story, how hard you think about it and, above all else, read the book, as movies can't capture many themes and subplots of the book. |
| ... 2005-03-28 ch 1, | Good call on that one! Oh, sweet irony! This piece is genius, I love it! It reminds me of some pieces I've written. Feel free to check them out. |
| swift sky silver 2005-03-26 ch 1, | i read Animal Farm last year... i think he used a farm because back then, it was very typical for a person to get married, have children, and raise a farm. the book is about how an attempt on having a better form of order, is just another way of changing who is in power. i agree, it is filled with symbolism. to add, i think Snowball also represents a righteous leader that hasn't got the skills to back stab, and in the end, he gets overthrown. good job on the essay. i would have never bothered. the teacher made me suffer enough through the book. keep writing =0) |
| saeo 2005-03-26 ch 1, | I hated Animal Farm when I read it, but I guess everyone's different. I totally disagree with the message this essay is sending though. I will say that the third paragraph was really funny, what with the pig's obesity and all, that made me chickle, but there are other points I find midly disturbing: For instance, the pigs were "freed"? They were miniature Hitlers! And they were freed because they were able to geet drunk and gamble? There is more to life than that. The whole point of Animal Farm was to show how tough all the animals had it and how the pigs took over, because it was a comparison of life back in Orwell's time. Boxer didn't get what he deserved, while the pigs already had freedom and were using it against everyone else. As I listened to your opinion, thanks for listening to mine. I guess it all depends on how you interpret it. I really don't mean to offend. ~Always, saeo |
