| grim-dreamer 2005-04-08 ch 1, | An eloquent poem with a gentle and appropriate sprinkling of vocabulary - not too cumbersome for the poem at all. The pace had a subtle majestic something about it, which was strengthened by the image of the elk introduced in the final stanza. That stanza is easily the best of the three. 'Flaky scarlet' and 'lake of souls' are beautiful in their own way. Very nice to read. And responding to your comment, I disagree. I disagree with the belief some reviewers have about how to read and review a poem. It's not necessary to kiss arse and gloss something that could be improved. Poetry is not all about the emotion, it's also about the form and if you don't get it right then you've botched the emotion anyway. You don't need to be a good poet to realise that and I'm not in this to flatter and get reviews, I'm in it to indicate a standard, one that people need to know exists... gah, I could go on forever and still sound egregiously arrogant without explaining a thing. Do you know what I mean? Look at your poem. Of course you do. |
