Arum is not dead inside. I think he has a way to shield his mind, or something, but he's not dead. I might be wrong, but I think his name kinda shows it, in a way. It means clever, and I think that it shows he's hiding something. I don't think you mentioned what's his psychic ability is, but I might have just overlooked it.

Karayan is my new favorite creepy guy.
