This is very well written. I'll do my best to answer the way I was taught when I asked the very same question.

God gave us free will so we could love Him. If you have no choice in whether to obey God or not, it's not true love because you can't do things any other way. The reason Jesus saves only those who believe in Him is because you have to accept His forgiveness in order to be forgiven. It's a gift. If your friend bought you a gift and you didn't take it, then it wouldn't be yours. However, God really wants you to have the gift, so its always there for you to take.

I'm not trying to be preachy here, though I know it sounds it. I'm just trying to answer what was asked in the poem.
