| lamenting envelope 2005-06-03 ch 1, | abusecookiemonster - You're close. It's actually about John Wilkes Booth, specifically his grave. You're right about the state song, it is Maryland. Though during the civil war Maryland was technically a Northern state, there were several cries for it to join 'its sister Virginia' and fight for the south. One of these cries eventually became the state song. The part that I took the title from is this: /Virginia should not call in vainSic semper! tis the proud refrain/ 'Sic semper tyrannis' (thus always to tyrants) being the state motto of Virginia. It is also the "proud refrain" hollered by Virginia's own John Wilkes Booth after he shot Lincoln. Make sense now? :) Thanks for reviewing. |
| cookiemonster 2005-06-02 ch 1, | abuseI'm prolly wrong about this, but this reminded me of the Civil War...that was around 140 years ago... is that the state song of...Maryland? I dunno! the balitmore is the only indication of some sorta state. anyway, i liked this pome. esp. the baltimore mist line...that just kinda stood out for some reason. Henna |
