For your essay, the only reason I can think of that this essay about love did not win is that in the first paragraph of so, the thesis wasn't stated clearly enough -- avoid roundabout explanations and examples right off the bat and stake your point using simple words. But other than that, I totally agree with the point you're trying to make. Good job!

Your writing wasn't lousy and I think this is an excellent piece of work. It is thought out and written with skill. Obviously I haven't seen the other entries but I feel this definitely should be a winner. I'm not Jewish myself and I feel this is quite a general read. So anyway, great work!

Wow... No, I definitely can't say I disagree. This sounds like the truth. And I don't know why it didn't win. Your writing is great, and something with such originality had to have some high chance of winning. Never before did I see love from this point of view.
