No Trust 2005-08-03 . chapter 1“Money is the unique structure that has the ability to sustain a society upon the strength of a piece of paper of on a piece of metal no more than a few millimeters thickness.”
Wrong.
“It is the cause of all the worlds good fortune, but also the cause of all its bad fortune.”
Wrong on both counts.
“I pose to you this question: "What would the world be like without money?"”
Without what you define as money, the world would look pretty much the way it does now. Truly without money: imagine the world as it is, except much more primitive and unpleasant.
“Why didn't we just choose to live under a barter system? It would be a lot healthier for the human race.”
You have got to be kidding.
“Face it, wars were started on account of a want for power which was a direct result of the want for more money.”
The wars you’re talking about are started on account of a want for stuff in general. When money is not prevalent wars are fought over land.
“But without money to be had, where would the power to be gained arise from?”
Slaves. Land. Miscellaneous loot. Lumber. Ore veins. In roughly that order.
“It wouldn't. Massive numbers of human lives could have been saved if money had never existed.”
In the sense that they would never have had the chance to exist in the first place, sure.
“I know some of you may defend that wars are started over the need for political power, not just generalized power. But if you think about it, without money, government and politics could be nearly abolished or at least the corruption of our government would be kept at a minimum (because corruption is a result of greed, wanting more money).”
Greed is not ‘wanting more money’. Greed is wanting more stuff. Money is highly liquid, useful in the acquisition of most other things, so demand for money is naturally high. But greed doesn’t even necessarily have anything to do with money.
“With a government like that, society could be peaceful and wars would never be started. Strikes over corrupt government and money would never start.”
Yes, cavemen never ever killed each other.
“This leads into my point on the crime rate. Indeed, some crimes are not directly related to money such as robberies are, but some are results of psychological problems which most typical television psychologists enjoy tracing back to an unhappy home.”
They are full of **.
“You want to know what creats an 'unhappy home'?”
Stupid relatives.
“If there were no such thing as money there would be no such thing as financial problems.”
If there were no such thing as life there would be no such thing as unhappiness.
“This will be a downer for all and any who live their lives involving technology in every aspect. If there was no money the progression and production of technology would be at a stand still or at a snail's pace.”
Yes.
“But would we really notice?”
Yes.
“We would have never grown up with technology and we wouldn't notice its absence.”
Most of us would never have grown up at all.
“And besides without technology the earths natural resources and natural protection systems couldn't be destroyed and exploited. No factories to destroy the ozone. No technology to mine coal and do massive clearcutting.”
Oh gawd. Go marry a tree or something.
“Without money, huge corporations wouldn't exist.”
Instead, they’d be ruthless landholding equestrian aristocrats.
“In turn, these huge corporations would have no need to exploit the crops of third world countries and to take advantage of their once productive farm land.”
Now you’re just mouthing commie propaganda.
“They wouldn't need to use children to make their products.”
True. The kids would be too busy working themselves to death to help feed their families.
“These countries would be able to grow their own food and world starvation would be at a minimum.”
In the sense that most of the world’s starving would simply die off.
“What we need, instead of money is a good solid barter system. A trading system. Instead of exchanging money for goods and services, exchange good and services for goods and services.”
That’s what money is —- a way to facilitate the trade of goods and services for other goods and services more widely, between individuals incapable of directly producing the goods and services in the quantity or quality the other wants.
“This would allow for a more peaceful society as well as a lower percentage of people who are obese.”
Lower percentage of people who are obese? Maybe. More peaceful? Hell no.
“Having to work for what you want would allow for weight loss and better work ethic and values.”
By what standards do you judge values to be ‘better’ or ‘worse’?
“Think about this, as the cost of living gets higher, middle class and lower class become poorer while high class sucks up all the cash we hand out in order to live.”
If the true cost of living got higher, the rich would get poorer along with everyone else. You really shouldn’t use technical economic terms if you don’t know what they mean.
”It's been an ongoing battle for many, many generations. If money never existed then the division of the classes would never have taken place and we would all live in a united society where everyone is equal.”
No, we’d live in a society with a warrior aristocracy who was strong enough to do what they wanted to who they wanted. Which is pretty much what we have now, except they can’t do as much harm to everyone.
“Isn't that the kind of world we are trying to achieve - unsuccessfully - even with the presence of money?”
I don’t know of a single human being who is truly seeking actual equality. I don’t see why anyone should.
“It's impossible to achieve because there just aren't enough people in the world who like to share their money.”
True equality has nothing to do with sharing money. It’s a genetic matter.
“To reiterate, the world would be a much better place if money had never existed.”
Perhaps by the standards of a rabid, human-hating primitivist.
“Our crime rates would go down,”
Wrong.
“political structure would barely exist,”
It would certainly be reduced to its bare nature; the social contractarian delusions and pompous ceremony would surely be nowhere to be found. Only good old fashioned honest robbery and rule by brute force.
“the earth would be healthier because of lack of technology,”
The earth does not have ‘health’, it is not a person but a convenient chunk of resources.
“obescity would be minimal,”
Replaced by malnourishment.
“class division wouldn't happen, equality of the human race would happen,”
You’re obviously on drugs.
“less war.”
Due entirely to fewer people.
“We would be happy.”
All humans seek their own happiness. It’s mostly a state of mind. ‘We’ would be about as happy as ‘we’ are now.
“I guess there's not much else I can say; this is just my opinion and thoughts on what the world could be like.”
And it is wrong.
“I'll let you think what you want.”
Like you have a choice. |
