Wow...this is some of the better writing I've seen on fp. I like how the beginning and end sort of repeat with "but sadly, the road was empty." It makes for a nice start and complete finish. Very surprised no one has reviewed it yet...this is the top notch writing style that could seriously be published. Keep it up.
