abuseI wrote an essay about this about a year ago, interesting topic. I picked a differnt viewpoint though. Although you can argue that second hand smoke proposes health risks to other people, this doesn't mean it should be banned. It should be the descision of the people who own the resteraunt, bar or any other public place whether or not to allow smoking. Not the city, state or government. Because obviously, this is a breach of one's civil liberites. People should have choices. As it is now, you can go to a resteraunt and chose "smoking or non smoking". The ideal solution, because in this case everyone wins, the smoker and the non smoker. If someone wants to ban smoking in the business that they own, good for them, they'll see business from people who hate the smell of tobacco smoke, and likewise, if someone wants to open up a business that allows smoking, they'll see business from people who smoke. (That whole free enterprise thing again)

Although I dissagree with you point of view, it was a well written essay, and you definately deserve credit for doing the research.

abuseAs far as I know, smoking in restaurants is generally illegal in most first-world countries. Fortunately, I'm currently in Mexico, which means that I can walk, underage, into a bar, order a stiff drink and light up a Camel, savoring both the taste and the annoyance it produces in non-smoking **. Yeah. Now I'll make a statement:

Smoking doesn't kill! Emo kills! If you listen to Emo, the terrorists have won!
