As a fellow Michigander, I know that the safety of the Mitten State from a hurricane's direct impact doesn't protect us from the side-effects.

Problem is, I won't know that safety for much longer. I'm moving to Georgia sometime next year, although the Savannah River Valley is almost as safe when it comes to hurricanes as Motown is, oddly enough.

As a person who lives in the area affected by Katrina (forgive me if I don't specify where), I just wanted to say how grateful I am that there are those out there who are aware of how devastating Katrina was. Thankfully my school was okay, and we've been back in school since the beginning of this month, but because other schools weren't so fortunate, our student population has almost doubled with new students from the New Orleans area. Thank you for writing this poem, as it gives me hope that maybe things may return to some kind of normalcy. Sillygoose49
