If you wrote it in paragraph form, it would read like a regular story. Poetry is like music: both are based on fundamental principles of rhythm and structure. Poetry without rhythm is like music without a time signature. Poetry without structure can be equated to playing random notes of the piano; it just doesn't SOUND good. Poetry is not arbitrary; if it were, then what would there be to differentiate it from prose? Nothing. Just keep those in mind when you write your next poem. Good luck! |
