Mistress of Shadows 2008-09-26 . chapter 1Having just finished writing a play about Spartan vs. Athenian women for a Civilization class, I found it interesting to read another student's point of view rather than that of a researcher.
It also made me not a little relieved that your facts match up with the ones I found. :]
The piece itself it quite well written; I enjoyed it thoroughly. |

Yukiko07 2008-01-02 . chapter 1 I really like this essay and as a modern woman I cannot help but admire the freedoms that spartan women had in a time most women couldn't even speak in front of men.
I recently read another article about spartan life that I also think that makes sense. Historians quote that spartan men "might even have children before they saw their own wives in the day" but if spartan women studied alongside their male peers and if it was such a small society, and the age difference between spouses wasn't very large, that would mean that spartan women would know their potential husbands very well since childhood :D
It's really such an interesting society =) |
