Once again, I like the voice, and, once again, I like the first line- the first couple up paragraphs really draw the attention.

Very much Edgar Allen Poe! Loved the ending!

So, I am reading along, and I get to the last line. My lips, acting out of entirely their own volition, twist upwards into a grin.

Sign of a good story, I suppose. I am afriad that I can't think of criticism, so I'll focus on the parts that I really was impressed by.

First, by the aforementioned quiet effect on the reader's emotions. Maybe I'm just wicked, and feeling for kin.

Second, I like the narrative voice, as it saves it from being terribly, terribly cliched.

Third, I like the thoughts not explained. As I learnt in a particular story of might, providing all the answers isn't the best thing. Here, I wondered as too the motive.

Hmm. Now there's a useless bit of critic. I was happy enough to play along with the narrator's explanation of her motive. However, I doubt that everyone will do the same, and that has the potencial to poison the whole read. Of course, there's really no way around that, as to have a normal motive would be painfully banal for the rest of us.
