I think that the angst works, but I think you're driving it in the wrong direction. This scratches the surface but doesn't go much further than that.

so sad...really heartbreaking. I like the mix of thought and event, and the slight sense of mystery about what's happened between them.

At first, I thought this was a little cliché, but the ending makes it absolutely tragic. I love that it's not the way it appears. Gorgeous.
