Wonderfully gritty. The () simply add more to the atmosphere. Reminds me of a little secret someone is sharing.

That first part is simply amazing. Bitter and maybe just a little angry, but hopeless. The emotions were conveyed very strongly (to me). Of course, they could be different for everybody, but I'm taking my poetic interpretive license.
