I think you've accomplished something difficult here which is to write an opening chapter that is immediately interesting. I love the imagery, however, I almost wish that there was more of it to set the scene and to describe Merium before she is thrown headlong into the plot. It is quite intriguing and I hope that you'll write more on this story.
