Vampex uses traditional weaponry because nothing more effective has been developed to stop a vampire from long range (which is ideally where one would want to put down a vamp). The Vampex Serum is their primary weapon; but it's only a tranq gun, not a semiautomatic. Thanks for the comment. I'm a fan of your work, by the way.

Character development is excellent, though you could work on tension some more, perhaps by adding more details but not advancing the plot by a lot. I also have to ask why the Vampex crew in the beginning are armed with conventional weapons. I mean, you've said that they were useless against vampires, so why bother? Military guys won't carry more stuff than they absolutely have to; it's in their training.
