I don't if either of you have read "The Tale of Genji" (the first known extant novel, written by a woman in Heian Japan in the middle 1100's), but in that exquisitely subtle culture, communications such as this tended to last a lifetime.

Which, in this case, would be a great thing for your readers, as these pieces are tender and beautiful and delightful.
