You totally should have developed this into a longer story. I would LOVE this to be turned into something about the two kids.

I sympathize. The day before our finals, I had a dream I was this little robin living in a tree outside my bedroom window... And then a hawk ate me on the driveway. 0. Quite ovbiously not as well written or as emotion inducing as your piece, though. Well written.
