Reviews For: what's so entertaining?
Cylinsier 2007-03-15 . chapter 1
I definitely detected the frustrated tone that Voronwe was talking about, but I tend to find essays more interesting when the speaker clearly has a vested interest in the subject. On that note, I think you make an excellent point. There's a great potential in BET that has thus far remained untapped. To me, the worst part is that this channel's insinuations of what black people enjoy are demonstrated to other races every time they happen to pass over the channel. Now, you have other young kids of different races who will grow up with stereotypes of black people that we've been trying to erase for years.

heh, my brother watches BET a lot for some reason, and we're Asian... i don't watch much TV, but from passing glances, i'd say there are very, very few uplifting and constructive programs. I do think minorities (as much for asians as for blacks)reinforce the stereotype, but that's just one more reason for us to be different. I know my brother stereotypes blacks a lot; maybe it's time i make him stop watching BET... i like you're point (although the essay itself can use a little improvement) (=

Pretty interesting view of things. I don't watch BET myself. I barely even watch television. However, coming from an Asian family where the my mother's generation came directly from China or Hong Kong, I find it even more interesting that the succeeding generation seem to all be interested in BET.

My first cousin Megan seems to love BET.

My two cousins from Australia, Sonny and William, both watch BET.

The generation ahead of me watched BET a few times during Christmas.

Why do I find this interesting? My cousins both have their own racial issues with discrimination and such. Even worse for my first cousin since she's a woman. My cousins from down under used to get into fights in school which I can only attribute to their race. After reading the essay, it confirms what little I have watched of BET to be and makes me think that my cousins watch BET without knowing what they really watching.

Hope I'm not treading on some toes, but it seems like minorities attract minorities regardless of what is being shown. Even minorities of other races.

I don't think BET is entertaining, just sickening with some desperate need for actual value.

I'm glad someone shares my views.

Liked the piece (it had guts), but there is one major drawback in addition to the abysmal spelling and grammar and punctuation (that really drew from the paper as well).

Your problem was attitude. It had a frustrated tone (appropriate, but not as convincing as it could have been.) that, while I sympothized at times, made me think that you hadn't gotten your head together when you wrote this.

Other than that, I liked it.
