Cool! I liked the storytelling used, and the twist at the end. It was captivating throughout. I also liked how he saw the skulls and pottery after he found the orb.

However, I have a few crits to make. For one, you switched from present to past tense after the first two sentences. For, er, two... When you said the orb-creature was "a creature previously thought to only exist in science fiction." I've read a LOT of science fiction, and have never seen anything like that, so I don't really know what you're talking about. But that's okay, original... creatures... are always a plus.

Besides those things, and the fact that telepathy is a hackneyed device, I found this story to be entertaining and well-written, though short (there could have been more 'meat' added to it, if you will). I commend you.
