This was really dark and sinister. You dealt with nasty situations: like his mum abusing him, and the murder of the girl, but I think you did it really well. There wasn’t a lot of detail, but I knew what was going on – and you kind of left it up to my imagination which in some ways is worse than reading about it!

I did get a bit confused when his mum calls him Taylor though and later you refer to him as Fox. You do explain that Taylor is his second name further on though. I was curious to know about the ‘shaman blood’ that Fox has. It was just mentioned in passing, but it would have been interesting to know where he got it from. If that makes sense?

I liked the way you wrote it as well, splitting the narrative between what Fox was doing now, and flash backs with his mum, and Carl finding him. Actually one of the most sinister things about this was the ending because Fox thinks it’s over but the implication is that Carl has other plans for him. It gave me chills.
