ch 1,
I think it is a lot like Hobbiton from the Lord of the Rings, at least with the flat grassy land, rolling hills, and the large tree, but I don't think you need to change it much. There's many stories that have places like that. Since most fantasy type things take place in settings not to geographically different from each other it's hard to not sound a like you had a little influence or something from someone else. Maybe make the water a bigger part of it, what with small lakes, maybe some homes on the lakes. You could put more forested areas near the center of the town, or have the southern half look more rugged than the northern or just try something like that, but overall I don't think you need to worry. Your story will be a lot different I'm sure and wonderful as always. =^.^=

* just a thought you could break up the description into a few more paracraphs *

It seems ok to me, quite avarage, nothing illogical. It's a little weird how all the important geographical features are either straight in the south, west, etc. As if the town is a compas, perhaos move something for example to the south-west... just a thought.

apart from that, i see no problems with the setting. well done!
