Reviews For: F! Censorship!
monophobian 2007-02-13 . chapter 1
Hm. This is an interesting essay and topic -- one that I can see both sides of the spectrum. While I personally would not like my seven-year-old nephew to be subject to seeing some of the contemporary art "celebrating" (for lack of a better term) the female body, I do agree that they shouldn't be banned.
Your essay was well written -- a little too emotional at points to be completely professional -- and very well planned and thought out.
I did, however, miss the acknowledgement of the censorship of the nude male body. For instance, on there are mass photos and illustrations of nude women in...compromising and explicit positions, while many photos and illustrations of full frontal male nudity (including the flacid state) are being taken off the site and some of the artists' accounts are being deleted as well. I have seen more censorship of male nudity than female nudity, but you still did a wonderful job with this essay.
Kudos!

Oh man, I almost peed myself when I saw this in your profile. I had to do a censorship speech back in lit class at the beginning of the year, and I have to admit... This one is a whole lot better than my own. I almost wished I could have read this back when I was writing my own. Maybe it would have given me some kind of motivation to write a speech about internet censorship.

Good job!

D@#n! I know what you mean. My mother's an elementary art teacher and when she showed a picture Native American kachina doll (an innocent statue that was the Native American's believed to hold beneign spirits) a parent of her students objected. On the grounds that it undermined her child's Christian education. Don't let me get started on Harry Potter. Keep up the good work and thanks for the criticism, E.

This really made me think, which is a good thing! I guess I'd always vaguely wondered what really made certain words acceptable and others not, but I'd never really completely thought it through. I'm glad that I read the definitions you listed in this essay, because although I always hear bleeped words and other forms of censorship, I had never really understood what was really going on. You have some pretty strong opinions here, and although I'm not sure I agree with all of them, you presented them in such a good way that I respect your thoughts on this subject and gave them careful consideration. Overall, this was a very good essay. You specifically had amazing support from credible sources and tied it into your own words very well. Great job!

Great essay! This is true...censorship is truly annoying. Especially that thing with the Harry Potter books...I love how they call those "anti-Christian" and yet in the books the characters celebrate Christmas and Easter.
