| boys kiss girls 2006-06-06 ch 1, | abuseexcellent villanelle. I have yet to attempt one. and yes, I do believe that most humans have something against keeping things alive. *however* if you think about it this way... the world would be horribly over populated if everything stayed alive rather than dying when it usually does. (that almost makes sense). |
| Lauren Wolfe 2006-05-20 ch 1, | abuseIt's horrible, how all this comes to pass... wonderful write! Keep it up! ^-^ |
| fictitious facades 2006-05-15 ch 1, | abuseWow. That was really good! I like the repeating (Can you hear the mothers cry?). It really showed what your poem was about. I think your question is interesting too. I mean, we have wars and there really all about killing people. But we would die if we didn't kill animals (or plants) to survive, so its kind of either we die or them. And if we die than they're just going to have to make the same decision. |
| Dawn's-End 2006-04-14 ch 1, | abuseThe form of this poem suits the mood very well. It shows something about the villanelle that it can be used for both the serious purpose that you convey in this poem and the frivolous attempted-humor that I tried to get across in mine. You chose the two repeated lines very well, which is imperitive to writing the form cohesively and well. The only problem I really have is with the rhythm. I think the poem would flow better and be more powerful if it had a more regular distribution of syllables. Also, "But they know they'll never see the others again." has an approximate rhyme that I don't particularly like. Pronouncing "again" with a long A is archaic and a bit contrite.I'll admit I've read little of Sylvia Plath besides the requisite reading of "The Bell Jar" which I did enjoy as much as one can enjoy a story with such a morbid topic. Personally I modelled my villanelles on those of Oscar Wilde. He wrote fairly strict iambic tetrameter, 19 line villanelles, but as you said there are certainly many variations. I've even seen a few that do away with rhyme altogether! I'm most likely going to the Darfur Rally in D.C. because I live reasonably close. I might write something about it afterward. |
