"While wrapped in his blanket, in the tent that kept chill and river insects out, fragments of his past stay in the area flashed in his mind." : I think the first comma is wrong. When speaking, a pause doesn't exist there in my mind.

"His shoulders and back would be stiff in the morning, his arms and the bald patch on his head ached after the long hours in the sun, he had splinters in his palms and fingers but, by the gods, he felt good." : I think this sentence might be a run-on. Even if it isn't a run-on, it sort of reads like one.

"Somewhere at their left, a group of frogs gossiped about the day’s events." : For some strange reason, I liked that sentence.

I liked the ending bit. Adds mystery, but nothing over the top.

Well, great job and I'm looking forward to reading the next installment.

"that’s how the locals called it." : I think the how should be a what.

"After all those years, however, survival had led him southwards." : I think there should be an again (I'm guessing this is what you're going at) so that continuity with the sentences before is maintained.

The Pirates War. Interesting, though to be quite frank, a bit generic sounding.

"Hoping toward the builders’ settlement, " : I think you meant hopping.

"The image of his crutch meeting the guard’s face flashed through his mind." : that sentence made me smile.

"Almost a woman, she wore her hair in thick braids." : are the thick braids relevant to the story? I'm not against mentioning them, but perhaps mention them in a way that involves the story in some way.

"I hope we’ll both live to see the dawn." : sorry, but that sentence seemed a bit random.

I like the last line. Has a sort of finality to it, despite the fact you've left plenty of room to read more.

Well, I think that's all for now. I really liked story, and hope see the next installment soon.

-peace out.
