the coffee fiend 2006-11-07 . chapter 1Wow. This was fantastic...this is an excellent essay. Your research seemed great (I'm not a big expert on the subject of Nixon and American government, so I can't contradict you on anything!) but this essay was informative and extremely professional. The use of in text citing was great, although a bibliography would have been nice, but that's not required I suppose!
I think, having read your essay, that the Watergate scandal was a good thing for American society (although in my country every knew scandal is "something-gate"...when they found our Prime Minister signed her name to another woman's painting the media called it "Paintergate" which is SO lame!) I think it was a wakeup call...democracy works because the checks and balances it requires from upstanding individuals WITHOUT an agenda (and yes, there are some!) compensate for man's naturally greedy impulses. Perhaps America was getting too indolent, too secure? Watergate seems to have proven (as you yourself say is one of the effects of the scandal) that the government can't be trusted. And I think this is a good thing, because if we trust a government one day someone will screw you over royally. That's why we stop thinking our parents are omniscient as well :D.
So yeah, all in all, just FANTASTIC. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this, it gave me a more in-depth look into a topic I only really knew the bare details of.

Leninor 2006-06-17 . chapter 1Dis is well-written and has has really opened my eyes to the past and how it even still effects us, it's shameful but what can we do? I wonder what the future has in store for us, hopefully not another scandel like the Nixon one. |
LxL 2006-05-31 . chapter 1Wow. 0.0 Very in-depth, and wonderfully written. What I can't get over is how something that started so small as a political scandal turned into something that lasts today. Honestly, I'm starting to realize (and I wish other people did to) that there will never be a president in which everybody in the whole USA likes. And if there is, he/she/it is lying about something. |
kuterlizzy 2006-05-31 . chapter 1UM YEAH THIS REALLY SUCKS |
No Trust 2006-05-05 . chapter 1Nixon was actually an exceptionally benign president, as far as the 20th Century goes. |
Darket 2006-05-01 . chapter 1Anyways, I agree with you. We had a good reputation until Vietnam. You see, the main problem with Nixon is that he had to document everything he did until some of his information got leaked. That's when he came up with the plumbers to stop leaks. When he robbed the Watergate it really showed how badly he could ** us over in the long run.
Now it shows how messed up our government operates. SO here's a final salute to Richard Nixon, "thanks for ** it up for the rest of us!"
Sorry, I'm stoned now. |
