RobinRocks 2006-05-08 . chapter 1Aha! He DID pawn that sword! I KNEW it! Hahahahaha…
*Ahem* Yeah… so, it was good! :) Exactly what I said! There was even pie in there! Ah, a classic line reminiscent of Cyborg; “Ooh, pie!”. Nicely done, Quinn, nicely done…
Well, my applause! I liked how you used the repetition of the continuous comparisons to Quinn, and the implications of Maximus simply “hitting stuff”. It showed a true Smart vs Dumb partnership between them, even though Quinn himself was (obviously) not present. I had forgotten that Maximus was so like Zelos, too! Womanizer… but it is ironic that Maximus tries so hard to get the girl and yet they all ignore him, and Quinn has so little interest, yet has the Princess of the Archipelago on his arm. Maximus must feel pretty bummed…
He’s such a sucker though (but we knew that already!)… I liked the old man; he was cool… I’d say he was smart too, but clearly you don’t have to be smart to scam Maximus…
Another interesting point was the very clever use of foreshadowing. The relationship between the Princess and the AWOL Quinn was brought into play, with perhaps a little touch of jealousy on Maximus’ part; while one of the final lines was cleverly done, implying the future storyline of Chronicles of the Great Archipelago Volume II, in which the sword (I think?) will indeed play some kind of role in slaying the King of Demons centuries on. No mention of Seth, but why does that not surprise me?…
I liked Maximus’ “logic” too; his reasoning behind trading his sword. Oh, because he OBVIOUSLY won’t ever need it again…
Overall, an amusing, satirical and sharply-written little piece. Let’s hope that you get more than just this review for it, because it deserves more. I promise to plug it in the next chapter of Black Magic!
Pawning his sword… it was just too good a chance to pass up, right?
